TOM Gordon for the Liberal Democrats has been elected as the MP for the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency with 23, 976 votes.

The result for the Skipton and Ripon constituency is still to be declared.

 

THE first general election result for North Yorkshire is expected to be declared at around 12.30am.

Richard Flinton, chief executive and acting returning officer for North Yorkshire, speaking from Harrogate via the council's social media sites,  said counting is underway for seven MP seats across four centres in the county.

"Its going to be an exciting night, we think the first declaration will be here in Harrogate at about 12.30am, maybe later. We think its going to be a big turn out, we are hearing the polling stations have been really busy," he said.
