Urgent 999 appeal to find missing man not seen for two weeks

An urgent appeal has been shared to find a missing man who was last seen more than two weeks ago, as the police search continues.

George Barnes was last seen in Burnley on Tuesday, April 9. Police said he doesn’t have a fixed address and is known to frequent the Leyland Road area of the town.

The 59-year-old, who is commonly known as Geordie, is described as being around 5ft tall, of slim build and with short brown/grey hair. He has a tattoo of a staffie dog on one of his legs and a tattoo of a Manchester United badge on the other.

Officers have shared a picture of George as part of their public appeal to find him. They are urging anyone with immediate sightings to call 999.

In a statement on Facebook, Burnley and Padiham Police said: "We need your help to find George Barnes who is missing from Burnley. George, 59, was last seen on 9th April.

"This was reported to us at the weekend and since then we have carried out a number of enquiries. We are now asking for your help, and we are concerned for his welfare.

"He doesn’t have a fixed address and is known to frequent the Leyland Road area of Burnley and the town centre. George, who is commonly known as Geordie, is around 5ft, slim build, with short brown/grey hair.

"He has a tattoo of a staffie dog on one of his legs and a tattoo of a Manchester United badge on the other. Immediate sightings of George, please call 999.

"Any information as to where he might be or previous sightings, call 101 – quoting log 1538 of 20th April 2024."
