Urgent hunt for escaped tortoise called Leo

Police shared an appeal on social media this morning after a tortoise escaped in Rochdale.

The pet - named Leo - escaped from its owner's home in the Spring Bank area of Healey. Leo's worried owner reported the tortoise as missing at Rochdale police station on Sunday (June 3), officers said.

The owner does not have social media and asked police share an appeal for help to track down his pet. In a post on the GMP Rochdale Facebook page this morning (July 2), police said residents in the area should check their gardens and outbuildings.

The post said: "#APPEAL | A gentleman has attended Rochdale police station on Sunday 30th June 2024 to report that his tortoise has escaped two days ago. The gentleman does not have access to social media and has asked us to post this on his behalf.

"Leo the tortoise has gone missing in the area of Spring Bank in Healey, and the gentleman is asking for anyone in that area to check their gardens and outbuildings. Should anyone locate the tortoise please contact Rochdale Police Station and we will facilitate its safe return."
