This Is Us producer KJ Steinberg has cast Margaret Qualley in a true crime drama based on the wrongful imprisonment of Amanda Knox.
The project, which has neither a name nor release date yet, will focus on Knox's incorrect conviction of the murder of roommate Meredith Kercher – and Maid actress Qualley will star in the lead role.
According to the official synopsis of the limited series for Hulu, the episodes will chronicle Knox's "16 year odyssey to set herself free" (via TVLine).

Knox was imprisoned for four years following her conviction of fellow international student Kercher, and was acquitted of the crime by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation in 2015.
It is not the first time the ordeal has been covered on screen. Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy was released in 2011 starring Scream's Hayden Panettiere. Netflix also released a 2016 documentary on the subject, as did BBC Three in 2014.

Elsewhere in true crime-related news, Strictly Come Dancing's Zara McDermott recently announced a BBC documentary based on 2022's Idaho University Murders.
The Idaho Murders: Trial by TikTok will see McDermott travel to Moscow, Idaho, where four Idaho University students (Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen) were murdered.
"I’ll be investigating the social media interest around the tragic murder case of the University of Idaho students which captured the minds of many around the world," she said of the series.
"I’m keen to find out why true crime is such a big topic online and the impact on those involved."
The currently untitled Amanda Knox series will stream on Hulu in the US.
