Uxbridge and South Ruislip General Election result as Labour take Boris Johnson's old seat by finest of margins

Danny Beales is the new member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip after a nail-biting vote. The Labour candidate overcame a razor-thin Tory majority of just 495 to topple Steve Tuckwell's brief time in charge, with by an almost equally as marginal 587 votes.

The news came several hours late with delays resulting from numerous recounts due to the tightness of the race. After a partial and full recount, the result was finally decided.

The result is a reversal of last July's by-election which saw Mr Beales dent a healthy Conservative majority but falling short of snatching the seat. It is the first time the area's electorate has returned a Labour candidate to Parliament.

Labour was probably expecting to have an easier night, with political pollsters giving them an 85.7 per cent chance of victory. However, it came down to the wire with Mr Beales looking nervous throughout the early morning.

The slight majority comes after Mr Beales received 16,599 votes to Mr Tuckwell's 16,012. Tim Wheeler, the Reform candidate gained 6,610 coming in third.

Although predicted by the polls, the result will sting for the Conservatives with the loss of ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson's seat cementing what has been a poor night overall. Mr Tuckwell will likely continue his role as a Hillingdon councillor which he maintained during his year in charge of the Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency.

Mr Beales, who is currently a councillor on Camden Council has previously said that he will be a 'full-time MP' and will leave his role on the council if he was to win the seat.

The full results are as follows:

LAB Danny Beales 16,599
UKIP Geoff Courtenay 164
SDP Steve Gardner 200
GRN Sarah Green 4,354
TUSC Gary Lee Harboud 223
LIB Ian Laurence Rex-Hawkes 1,752
RFM Tim Wheeler 6,610
CON Steve Tuckwell 16,012
