A CLOSED car dealership building that has been plagued with vandalism is set to be demolished.

The Arnold Clark garage on Farrell Street in Howley has been targeted by vandals since closing, but a transformation is planned for the site.

This, according to Cllr Sagheer Zaman, ward councillor for Warrington Borough Council, is set to involve a new NHS GP surgery.

It is believed that, subject to the necessary planning permissions, the building could be demolished and a new doctors built in its place.

Cllr Zaman said: “A number of residents have raised concerns regarding the old Arnold Clark car showroom on Farrell Street being vandalised.

“After liaising with council officers, they have confirmed that the site is owned by the council and leased long-term to the tenant, Arnold Clark.

“The tenant has all the responsibility for the building, condition and security.

“The council has been in regular contact with the tenant seeking its co-operation in protecting the building and the community.

“The property will be demolished, subject to planning permission, and sold to an NHS-linked developer who plans to build and provide a much-needed doctors surgery on the site.

“We, as your ward councillors, will continue to work with the council, NHS and other stakeholders to make sure we get the best possible outcome for residents.”
