Variety to Host Three Conversations at Annecy International Animation Film Festival

Variety is expanding its presence at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market with three programmed conversations moderated by Variety journalists, taking place over the festival from June 10 to June 13.

On June 10, Variety’s international editor Elsa Keslassy will host behind-the-scenes interviews at the “Transformers One” screening, with Josh Cooley, director of “Transformers One”; Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation; Lorenzo di Bonaventura, founder of Di Bonaventura Pictures and producer “Transformers” film series; and Marcel Jean, artistic director of the Annecy Animation Film Festival.

Additionally, on June 11, Variety’s Keslassy will moderate the “Innovation and Inspiration in Global Animation” panel featuring Josh Cooley; Chris Miller, producer on “Smurfs” and “Puss in Boots”; Jeff Rowe, writer and director of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” and “Mitchell vs. The Machines”; and María Trénor, director of “Rock Bottom.”

Also on June 11, a panel conversation will celebrate the 15-year anniversary of Laika’s “Coraline” in anticipation of the film’s worldwide theatrical re-release later this summer. Variety’s chief film critic Peter DeBruge will moderate the conversation featuring Laika panelists Brian McLean, director of rapid prototype; Oliver Jones, director of practical effects; and Jeff Stringer, chief technology officer. Special guest Henry Selick, director, screenwriter and production designer on “Coraline,” will join the discussion as well.

On June 13, the Variety FYC Animation Preview Panel moderated by senior entertainment technology and crafts editor Carolyn Giardina will feature Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, directors on “Wallace and Gromit,” Shannon Tindle, director of “Ultraman: Rising,” Vicky Jenson, director of “Spellbound”; Simon Otto, director of “That Christmas”; and Yoshiaki Nishimura, screenwriter and producer.
