Vera's A-list super fan admits love for ITV drama on US talk show and hasn't missed an episode

A Hollywood A-lister has revealed themselves to be a huge fan of Vera, with their dedication to the much loved drama meaning they haven't missed an episode

It's now been 13 years since BAFTA winner Brenda Blethyn made her first appearance as no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope, with pilot episode Hidden Depths seeing her team up with since returning sidekick David Leon and also featuring music icon Sam Fender as the ITV show's first ever murder victim. After all of Vera's 13 series have proved to be big ratings winners for the broadcaster, Brenda, David and their co-stars are currently nearing the end of filming for the last ever run, with two final episodes in production and set to air in early 2025.

News of Vera coming to an end was a bitter pill for its legions of fans to swallow and someone who doesn't want it to end is none other than Hollywood legend Steve Martin. Steve, the star of countless films like Father of the Bride, Three Amigos and Cheaper by the Dozen, started talking about Vera during an interview on top rated American programme The Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Chatting to guest host and fellow acting legend Martin Short, Steve said: "I was watching TV the other day; there's this show, Vera. It's an English crime series. It stars Brenda Blethyn..." at which point Martin enthused: "Well now you're talking!"

Having sparked Martin's interest, Steve continued: "She's an acknowledged actress. She's been nominated for Academy Awards and Emmys and things and it's been on for 12 seasons and I've watched every season."
