Vera's Rhiannon Clements confirms ITV return for final series after landing new role

She became an instant fan favourite when she joined the show last year and Rhiannon Clements has revealed she will be back for the last ever series, having been earning rave reviews for a new role away from the hit drama.

Known to millions of soaps fans as villain Summer Ranger in Hollyoaks, Rhiannon was delighted to announced last year that she'd landed a part in Vera, with her character Steph Duncan the latest recruit to join the ranks of Northumberland & City Police. After some early tension between herself and the returning Joe Ashworth (David Leon) Steph settled into life with the Force and ITV viewers were quick to praise Rhiannon, with some even arguing that she could be 'the future' of the show.

There was some sad news for devotees of things DCI Stanhope on Monday, when it was confirmed that Vera is ending next year, with its 14th series being the last. And, following the release of a photo of leading lady Brenda Blethyn, together with on-screen sidekick David and co-star Riley Jones, Rhiannon took to Instagram to announce that she was also back on set.

The actress posted a photo of a place card with her name and character name on, alongside the very top of the series 14 script on her Instagram story and captioned it: 'We're back!'

Rhiannon has been kept busy of late in a role very different to her one in Vera, earning plenty of brilliant reviews for her star turn in the National Theatre's Underdog: The Other Other Bronte. As well as critics being very favourable with their feedback on the show, Rhiannon's fans and friends have been flooding her Insta with their comments, with one telling her: "You're incredible I am so proud of you" and another writing: "You are on fire !!
