Two Tyneside families welcomed a very special Father's Day present this year at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle - a newborn.

One mum said that having a baby on Father's Day was a lovely bonus - and meant she didn't have to worry about getting anything for her husband this year.

Ginny and Sean Somerville live in Prudhoe, Northumberland. Sean is a builder while Ginny is a veterinary nurse and also teaches veterinary nursing. Ginny told ChronicleLive about bringing a little baby boy - weighing eight pounds and one ounce - into the world.

She said: "Everything has been fine and we are literally just getting home and through the front door. It's quite nice, we have a lot of June birthdays in our family!

"What a brilliant present for him - I won't have to get him anything else for Father's Day this year, I've given him a child."

She said the baby's siblings were excited to meet him, adding: "I was induced so with that we were here pretty early yesterday - so it's lovely to get home."

Alix-Jay Dover, 25, and Lee Johnston, 28, from Stanley, County Durham, welcomed baby Bradley into the world at 5.13am. He was two days early and weighed seven pounds and seven-and-a-half ounces.

Engraver Alix, who is also mum to Rhys, eight, said: "I had a feeling that he would come on a celebration day with it being Father's Day coming up. He's come on Father's Day and I think that's lovely for Lee, especially since it's his first baby as well.

"It was lush seeing him for the first time. It's really special to meet him finally."

Lee, who works as an internet car salesman, added: "It was the best present ever. It was lush, I'm just really proud of AJ. It was crazy seeing him for the first time and he had so much hair!"
