Vicky McClure hailed as a hero as 'Our Dementia Choir' makes emotional return

Admiration has been pouring in for Vicky McClure over her new documentary catching up with the dementia choir she formed to raise awareness of the condition.

Our Dementia Choir Sings Again is a two-part catch-up documentary with the choir that Line Of Duty star McClure began in 2019 in tribute to her late grandmother who had Alzheimer's disease.

Her 2019 documentary showed the power of music for those with dementia and in the second series, which began on BBC One on Monday, McClure caught up with the choir and their loved ones with some emotional updates on their health.

She also recorded a single with them, 'What's Your Story?', at Abbey Road Studios to raise money and awareness, and viewers have hailed her as a hero and a national treasure for her efforts.

One viewer tweeted: "Can we just state @Vicky_McClure as a national treasure already? lovely human being."

Someone else told her: "Thank you for making this very important programme. The rest of us sit around saying ‘something must be done’ - you do something about it. Well done you!"

The accolades continued to come in for McClure, who was praised for her empathy with the people she met in the documentary and her skill at telling their stories.
