Victim of gang attack involving Jay Slater speaks out as major search continues

A man brutally attacked by an armed gang, which included missing Brit Jay Slater, has appealed to the public for assistance and respect as the search for Jay enters its tenth day. Jay, a 19-year-old bricklayer, was part of an eight-member gang that viciously attacked Tom Hilton, then 17, with a machete and an axe in Rishton, Lancashire, in August 2021.

Jay disappeared last Monday morning (June 17) after being at a three-day rave with friends in Tenerife. He is believed to have travelled to the Spanish island for the NRG music festival in the south.

The details of Mr Hilton's ordeal resurfaced online as previous reports were rediscovered and shared on social media during the ongoing efforts to find Jay. In court, Mr Hilton likened the attackers to a "pack of wolves" and recounted how he had to flee for his life through the woods before they caught up with him, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Despite suffering severe injuries to his skull, shoulders, and legs in the horrific incident, Tom has responded to online trolls by calling for help in locating Jay in a public social media post. He stated: "Whoever is writing on these TikToks, give it a rest. This young lad's missing and his family's heartbroken.

"Put yourself in their shoes. Stop talking nonsense on social media and get this lad found, mentioning my name all this and that. Have some respect and help find this boy and get him back to his family."

At Preston Crown Court, Jay received an eight-month community order for violent disorder, 25 days rehabilitation activities and 150 hours unpaid work, LancsLive reported at the time.. Judge Philip Parry told those present that the group had "behaved disgracefully" during the incident and added: "You should all eight be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves but I am not at all convinced you are."

He continued: "I hope for the sake of all your families, the public and the people who have offered you jobs and apprenticeships and the sort that you all grow up. Every one of you deserves to be sent to youth detention."

The search for Jay persists into its tenth day after he was reported missing near Masca, in the Rural de Teno Park, on June 17.
