Shocking video shows knifemen leap from market stall hiding place to stab victims in 'revenge attack'

This is the moment a pair of knifemen sprung from their hiding place behind a market stall to stab two men in a city centre.

Remi Loader, 27, and Jacob Montique, 19, were jailed last week for a combined 48 years after they stabbed two men in Cambridge on 20 August last year.

Shocking CCTV footage of the attack shows the two men leap out from behind a stall in the city's Market Square to run after their victims, stabbing them several times.

In the clip, one of the victims is stabbed as his friend tries to defend him. The friend is then chased to the ground and stabbed repeatedly before managing to stagger away from the scene.

The two victims were placed into comas after the attack and almost died from their injuries. Doctors later revealed their injuries would have been fatal without medical intervention.

They are still recovering from their injuries more than a year after the attack, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The 30-year-old victim sustained stab wounds to the stomach, leg and hand. The 37-year-old victim was stabbed in the head, stomach and chest.

Police believe the two victims were spotted drinking at a bar earlier that evening and then targeted by Loader and Montique.

They were attacked after leaving the bar and walking through Market Square.

Following a four-week trial at Cambridge Crown Court in April, Loader, of no fixed address, and Montique, from Trumpington, were both found guilty of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Last Friday, Loader was sentenced to 27 years in prison, while Montique was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

The court heard the pair planned the attack before leaving the bar and while walking to Montique’s vehicle, where they changed into black clothing and donned face masks.

Armed with knives, they returned to the city and hid within the market until their victims arrived.

Loader was arrested by officers later that night and Montique two days later.

Detective Sergeant Hamish Cowley said: “Loader and Montique are both high harm, prolific offenders who have caused fear within their communities.

“This was a planned and premeditated attack, believed to be motivated by revenge from a previous incident, with one using a large hunting knife. Both victims were fortunate to survive the attack.

“This was an extremely complex investigation with limited witnesses or forensic opportunities.

"With the help of CCTV and mobile phone evidence we were able to place the pair at the scene and this dangerous duo will now be locked away from the public for a considerable amount of time.”
