A video shows unexplained lights spotted over Swindon last week moving in the night sky.

Multiple light beams were seen after 10pm on May 30 seen from across Royal Wootton Bassett, Purton, Cricklade and Minety shining upwards and moving.

It has been suggested that they were from Cotswold Airport, although the airport has denied this.

Sara Shoesmith, who took the video in Cricklade, asked: “Who’s putting on the light display tonight?”

It shows the lights moving forward and back, illuminating the clouds, and changing colours.

One person who saw them in Wootton Bassett described them as “pretty unnerving”.

Another said: “Looks like a scene from close encounters”, while others had similar responses, suggesting: “Aliens welding the pipe on Thamesdown”, and “our own Area 51”.

Some suggested they could be from Cotswold Airport, near Kemble, but a spokesperson from the airport said this was not true, and they “knew nothing about them”.

This is despite a searchlight test being scheduled until 10.30pm on the airfield.

Others have suggested that it was filming by Netflix on the airfield. Netflix has been contacted for comment.

Something everyone agreed on was that it was unusual, with one saying: “Lots of lights and something moving through the sky. Very odd.”

Surrounding councils have been contacted for information.
