I-10 Re-Opens in California After Bridge Washed Away in Heavy Rain

California’s I-10, which connects the state with Arizona, re-opened to traffic on July 24 after heavy rains contributed to a bridge washing away the previous weekend. The eastbound side of the highway remains closed, but the westbound side was re-opened with one lane available for traffic traveling in either direction. The eastbound side will remain closed until the bridge can be replaced.

The bridge washed out during heavy rains on July 19. One vehicle was caught in the bridge’s collapse, and the driver suffered moderate injuries. The road is the main connection between southern California and Arizona. Credit: YouTube/Caltrans District 8
