Brisbane Sees Edges of Cyclone Marcia

Tropical Cyclone Marcia was upgraded to a category five storm on February 19 ahead of making landfall in Queensland. The storm, which was expected to make landfall around 10am local time, had already triggered evacuation orders for Central Queensland, according to ABC Australia. Australia’s Northern Territory was also bracing for Tropical Cyclone Lam.

This video shows the scene near the coast in Surfers Paradise, Brisbane, nearly 1,000 kilometers away from Marcia’s coming landfall. The outer bands of the storm were creating hazardous driving conditions there on Friday, and forecasters reported it would likely get worse as the day progressed. Credit: Instagram/shanstevo
