Brush Fire Closes Hawaiian Highway

A brush fire on Hawaii’s Big Island swelled to more than 4,500 acres on Sunday, August 9, after shutting down a highway a day earlier. The fire forced evacuations from two neighborhoods and the closure of Highway 270 closed and other roads when a pile of timber near Kawaihae Harbor burst into flames.
