Heinz ketchup gets dumped by McDonalds

A saucy move from McDonalds as it announced it was going to stop buying tomato ketchup from Heinz after 40 years.

The coy reason they gave was “management changes” at the condiment company.

What that seems to means it that they are unhappy that Heinz is now headed by Brazilian Bernardo Hees, the former chief executive of rival Burger King.

Hees took over at Heinz in June when it was bought by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital, which also owns significant shares in Burger King.

McDonalds has 34,000 outlets worldwide, which is where the switch will be more apparent at as they reportedly serve Heinz ketchup in only two US markets – Pittsburgh and Minneapolis.

Heinz did not comment.
