Indigenous Protesters Clash With National Guard in Ecuador

Protesters from the Achuar and Shuar peoples carrying spears clashed with police and soldiers in southeastern Ecuador on August 18 and 19, with eight soldiers reportedly injured. The demonstrators were reportedly protesting over a lack of consultation on mining and oil-drilling on their traditional lands.
