Kerry Tells Senate Committee World 'United' Against IS

US Secretary of State John Kerry testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on March 11. Speaking about the US-led coalition against the Islamic State, Kerry said “the world is strongly united” in seeking the Islamic State’s defeat. He said the coalition had “stopped ISIL’s surge … degraded its leadership,” disrupted its communications and “heavily damaged” its revenue-generating oil facilities.

A Code Pink demonstrator briefly interrupted Kerry, according to reports. As he was escorted from the room, the protester shouted, “Creating more terrorism. Killing more innocent people.”

Kerry responded, saying: “Killing more innocent people. I wonder how our journalists who were beheaded, and the pilot who was fighting for freedom who was burned alive, what they would have to say to their efforts to protect innocent people.” Credit: Facebook/US Secretary of State
