Monochrome Video Shows Northern Lights Over Wisconsin

Sightings of the Aurora Borealis, commonly known as northern lights, were reported across Europe and parts of the US on Tuesday, March 17. This black-and-white footage shows the northern lights from a rooftop camera at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Aurora Borealis is a natural light display caused by the energy released during interaction between magnetically charged particles, discharged from large explosions on the sun, and the Earth’s magnetic field. Credit: SSEC and the AOS Department, UW-Madison
