Norwegian Ship Rescues Hundreds of Migrants From Small Boats Off Libyan Coast

A ship from Norway, which recently joined the European Union’s border protection agency, rescued more than 600 migrants off the coast of Libya on Monday, June 22, according to reports.

The Norwegian National Police Directorate reported that the Norwegian Siem Pilot vessel picked up 671 people from two small wooden boats off the coast of Tripoli. The ship’s captain, Svein Kvalavaag, told www.maritime.no that the crew was later asked to take 99 more people, who had been rescued earlier by a Russian tanker ship.
