OSCE and Ukrainian Soldiers Detonate Unexploded Ordnance

OSCE monitors and Ukrainian soldiers staged controlled detonations of unexploded ordnance in Kominternove, Ukraine, on March 9, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and an OSCE report.

Kominternove, a town lying on the frontline of the battle between separatists and the Ukrainian military, is roughly 15 miles (25km) east of Mariupol. RFE/RL said the OSCE began working with both Ukrainians and pro-Russian separatists to dispose of unexploded ordnance in November. The OSCE said the town has seen heavy shelling throughout the conflict, and that “unexploded tank and mortar shells, rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), 220mm rockets and burned tanks can be found throughout the village, including the yard of a local school and kindergarten.” Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
