Protesters Defy Baltimore Curfew

Protesters defied a city-wide curfew imposed by the mayor on Tuesday night, April 28, filling the streets and scuffling with police and Maryland’s National Guard that was activated at 10pm. Reporters on the scene described protesters throwing bottles and rocks at police officers, who responded with smoke bombs and pepper balls. A group of protesters started a fire outside the library, according to the Baltimore Police.

Earlier in the day, protesters marched from Baltimore’s west side to city hall, a day after demonstrations turned violent. Police arrested 235 people during the April 27 riots, looting and destruction, and 20 officers were injured, according to The Baltimore Sun.
