Rescue Workers Search Rubble After Second Quake

Just weeks after a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake left some 8,000 dead in Nepal, a second strong earthquake hit on May 12. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck 83km (52 miles) east of Kathmandu, and close to the base of Mount Everest. Early reports said 16 people had died, with the figure likely to increase.

This video shows aid workers amid rubble, including some who appear to be from USAID. The uploader references Los Topos, described as an “elite rescue team” that formed in the wake of the 1985 Mexican earthquake. Members of Los Topos have been volunteering in Nepal, according to Mexican TV.

Search dogs are seen emerging from a building where the uploader said two girls were trapped. Storyful is seeking to confirm this. Credit: Instagram/justinslife91/Los Topos
