Rough Fire Jumps Highway in California

A wildfire burning in Kings Canyon National Park jumped a river and a highway on Tuesday, August 18, prompting a pre-planned evacuation of 2,500 residents, campers, hikers and employees in the area. The Rough Fire has been burning since July 31 and is now more than 30,000 acres, with little of the blaze contained because of the rough terrain. This time-lapse video shows the fire as it jumped Highway 180.

Authorities also expanded the already closed section of the highway. Credit: Twitter/SJSU FireWeatherLab
