Sanders Joins Striking Federal Workers Ahead of Pope's Visit

US Senator Bernie Sanders joined striking federal workers on September 22 in Washington, D.C., hours ahead of Pope Francis’ arrival in the capital. The striking workers are seeking a minimum wage raise to $15 per hour and participated in a procession through the city to the US Capitol. Good Jobs Nation organized the event, and protesters were seen carrying crosses and dressed in religious garb.

Capitol workers also have requested an audience with the pope during his visit. Federal workers have held strikes in the past about the minimum wage increase, including in July. Credit: Good Jobs Nation
