Smoke From Four-Alarm West Houston Fire Can Be Seen Downtown

A four-alarm fire put a west Houston neighborhood on lockdown and caused evacuation of an elementary school on Thursday, May 5. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles, including in downtown Houston. Area residents also were ordered to shelter in place, including closing all doors, windows and exterior vents. Students at the nearby Spring Branch Elementary School were evacuated after the school had been put on lockdown.

Local media reported the fire started at a home in the Spring Branch section before spreading to A-1 Custom Packaging. The fire is in a warehouse on the property, and reports state eruptions have been heard at the site. There are no reports of what is stored in the warehouse. Credit: Instagram/phattxdiva
