Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal still leads the overall World Cup standings after clinching a super G in Val Gardena on the 14th of December and completing the podium in what was the closest downhill in history in Bormio on Saturday.

Svindal, a gold medallist in Vancouver, is looking for his third world title after securing the crown in 2007 and 2009.

The 30 year old is off to another terrific start this season and now leads his nearest rival Marcel Hirscher by 114 points.

America’s Ted Ligety is currently lying in third place, 23 points further back and remains well in contention heading into the new year. Earlier this season, the former Olympic champion claimed a giant slalom in Austria by 2.75 seconds, an event in which he has 14 career World Cup wins.
