The BMW X5 M60i gives you more than enough performance without sacrificing on-road comfort, which affords it a big livability advantage over the spicier X5 M.

The BMW X5 M60i may have a new badge, but the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood still makes 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, the same as it did prior to its minor glow-up for 2024.

That motive force is fed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.

There's enough on tap to send the X5 M60i to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, and it crosses the quarter-mile in 12.1 seconds at 113 mph.

The M60i's stoppers will bring this 5360-pound SUV down from 70 mph in 157 feet and from 100 mph in 325 feet.

On our 75-mph highway fuel economy loop, the X5 achieved 24 mpg, 2 mpg above the EPA's estimate.

The X5 disappointed on the skidpad with a 0.86-g result, continuing the X5's recent trend of delivering subpar grip figures.

Thankfully, despite some thin-sidewalled summer tires, the X5 M60i's ride is quite cushy when the standard adaptive dampers are in their most pliant default setting.

At $105,745 as tested, the X5 M60i is an expensive proposition, but even with more than $10,000 of options tacked on, its price stays well below the X5 M's $123,295 window sticker.

If you're willing to sacrifice a bit of performance compared to the X5 M, the X5 M60i rewards with plenty of accessible street performance and few, if any, luxury-adjacent drawbacks.
