Despite Porsche's desire to build a more luxurious sport hatchback, the new Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid still packs a wallop that could stagger even the most seasoned heavyweight.
Prepare your inner ear—the Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid is ready to do strange, strange things to it.
Try to keep your brain in place when the powertrain's combined output of 671 horsepower and 686 pound-feet of torque rocket you to 60 mph in an estimated 3.0 seconds.
That motivation comes from a combination of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and an electric motor nestled inside the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
If that wasn't enough of a punch, wait until you hear about Porsche Active Ride.
Porsche's trick new suspension setup is only available on E-Hybrid models, because it requires a 400-volt electrical architecture to work.
Each damper is connected to an electrically driven hydraulic pump that can change rebound and compression settings individually, at rates up to 13 times per second.
In fact, the hydraulic pumps can put in so much work, Porsche eliminated the front and rear anti-roll bars entirely, claiming the system doesn't require them.
After a few laps on the track, it was obvious that the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid is just as capable as it was before, if not more so.
Porsche Active Ride can also raise the vehicle up to 2.2 inches for easier access, and when you're not on a track, its electro-witchcraft can make road undulations virtually disappear underfoot. It's some wild stuff.
