The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology drags the iconic body-on-frame four-by-four into the electric age with quad motors and 579 horsepower.
Above the frame, the G580 is quite similar to its gas-powered counterparts. But everything beneath that boxy body is wildly different.
With a motor for each wheel, the G580 doesn't need the G-wagen's signature locking differentials—or any differentials at all.
The G580's 33.5-inch wading depth is limited only by the air intake for the HVAC system.
A De Dion rear axle allows central mounting for the electric motors along with solid-axle off-road articulation.
Even with 859 pound-feet of torque at 0 rpm, the G enjoys the mechanical advantage of low range for off-roading.
Top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph, at which speed the motors are turning 14,500 rpm.
If the front two motors need to join the rear two at top speed, they can spin up to 14,500 rpm in 300 milliseconds.
The 116.0-kWh battery pack is an integral part of the frame. While the G580's frame is much different than the gas-powered models', its body mounting points are the same.
Benz estimates that the G580's EPA-rated range will come in at 240 miles.
