Rúben Amorim remains the firm favorite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Whether he will arrive at Anfield this summer though remains unknown.

The 39-year-old has denied that any agreement is in place with the Reds, despite recent reports suggesting so. Even so, he’s still not ruling out leaving Sporting CP this summer, although there have been hints that he could choose to stay put.

If Liverpool gets its man though, there are suggestions that he could bring one of his stars over with him from Lisbon. It’s a situation the Reds wouldn’t be used to, given Klopp hasn’t signed any of his former players during his time at Anfield, but there’s one player catching a lot of attention at the moment.

Viktor Gyökeres has taken Portuguese football by storm this season. The Swedish striker made the move to Sporting from Coventry City last summer, and since then has bagged a remarkable 36 goals and 16 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

What’s more, reports are now suggesting he could follow Amorim to Anfield. According to HITC, Amorim wants to bring Gyökeres with him if he is appointed as the new Liverpool manager.

It’s an idea that Gyökeres seems as though he might be keen on. The player’s agent spoke earlier this month about his client’s future, suggesting a departure for Amorim could also see the 25-year-old leave — and a reunion with his manager might be an appealing prospect.

“It doesn’t surprise me that Rúben is being linked to Liverpool, it’s normal, his work is of a high level, it’s what the clubs are looking for,” Gyökeres’ representative Hasan Cetinkaya told A Bola.

“Yes, it will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Rúben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Rúben.

“The day we met, I said to Rúben: ‘Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you’.”

Cetinkaya added: “There were eight clubs very interested in Viktor last summer. They all paid Coventry more than Sporting, they all paid Viktor more, they all paid a higher commission to the agent.

“And I brought him to Sporting because of Rúben Amorim, because I know his work and his work with the players. I chose Rúben because he is a coach at another level.” says: It’s certainly an encouraging sign if there are big players wanting to play for Amorim. You fancy if Liverpool does secure Amorim, then Gyökeres would be keen on joining him at Anfield.

Whether the Reds would choose to go after Gyökeres though is another question. It wouldn’t be the right time to give up on Darwin Núñez, and the Swede won’t come cheaply. If Amorim comes though, it won’t be a surprise to see any of his Sporting stars follow him.
