Tiny Ukrainian Village Dubbed ‘Land Of The Twins’ - Because 122 Live There
It may seem like something from the pages of a sci-fi novel - but a village in Ukraine has been branded the ‘Land of the Twins’ - because a record breaking 122 of them live there.
The village of Velikaya Kopanya in south-west Ukraine has less than 4,000 inhabitants - but the amount of twins in the region is extraordinary high, with 122 of them in total.
Now, the village’s 61 twins have made it into Ukraine’s record book - and could even end up in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Locals believe that the amount of newly-born twins in the village Is higher than anywhere else in the rest of the country.
Maryana Savka, a local councillor, said: ‘The ultimate baby boom came in the year 2004. But ever since then we are having at least between two and three sets of twins born every year.’
And the reason for the high concentration of twins is like something from a story too - with local villagers attributing to it the town’s water supply - which has ‘health-giving properties.’
In a final twist to the story, the phenomenon has extended to animals too - with the town reporting high levels of twin cows.
Anna Tsogla is the mother of the youngest twins of the village and she said she ‘knew all along’ she would have twins.
It looks like there is something in the water after all!
