Villagers prepare to have a Field Day

FINAL preparations are underway for the return of an East Lancashire's village's big weekend.

Volunteers have been working hard for months to bring together the 2024 Ribchester Field Day.

Promoters have also been working closely with Longridge Environmental Group to ensure the 62nd gathering is the greenest to date, covering everything from litter picks to reusable items.

Kicking off the Ribble Valley spectacular will be a parade from Bee Mill, assembling at noon for a 1pm start.

And around 2.20pm the crowning of the Field Day Queen Iris Goldthorpe will take centre stage at the official opening, before parade prizes are awarded.

Longridge Samba Band will perform from 3pm then there will be a children's workshop.

Hit The North, a local duo, are up next at 4pm, followed half an hour later by the egg throwing and the children's races later.

Elsewhere there will be donkey rides, a children's fair, a tea tent and a licensed bar, with a family disco and live music from the Wild Aces in the marquee later.

Entries are also sought for earlier marquee classes, ranging from photos, poems and arts and crafts to flowering arranging, cookery and t-shirt design.

The outcome of the Field Day Raffle, with prizes galore pledged, will be made known after the village tea party on Sunday.
