A young entrepreneur is set to open a vintage clothing store in Caernarfon this week. Dylan Glyn, 24, is originally from Carmarthenshire but settled locally after studying at Bangor University.

He said: “After studying in Bangor for four years, I fell in love with the area and moved to live in Caernarfon. It is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, as I love living in such a beautiful and Welsh area with so many nice people around.”

He started selling clothes through websites such as Depop and Instagram, but he was keen to strengthen his skills and develop the business. The graduate took part in the Mentro initiative with the Llwyddo’n Lleol project and received support from Hwb Menter, a scheme that supports town centre businesses in Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Now he is opening his first shop - Cymro Vintage - on Palace Street in Caernarfon.

Dylan said: “I’m very excited to achieve my dream of opening a shop. I hope to see the shop go from strength to strength in Caernarfon and the hope in the future is to be able to employ staff to work with me so that I can go around events and hold ‘pop-up shops’ in a wide range of places.

“Llwyddo’n Lleol has been of great help to me, the project has helped me to gain the confidence I needed to put all my effort into developing the business. The experience has also given me the self-assurance that I could do anything I wanted with the business within reason, even if other people suggested that I wouldn’t be able to do it.

“Being around people who believed in you and had the same mentality, was really a boost for all of us as young entrepreneurs.”

Aled Pritchard, Llwyddo’n Lleol Mentro Initiative officer, said: “We are very proud that Dylan has benefited from being part of Llwyddo’n Lleol’s Mentro initiative, and that the training sessions have enabled Dylan to achieve his dream. As a project we are proud to have played our part in this exciting development. Dylan has worked diligently to develop his business and he is a good example of the type of enterprising individuals that Llwyddo’n Lleol is very proud to support through the Mentro initiative.

“One of the main objectives of Llwyddo’n Lleol is to support young individuals from the ARFOR region to succeed within their local communities. We are proud that we are able to equip young people with the necessary skills and experiences to enable them to develop their business ideas.”
