A vintage London Underground train will travel through the centre of the city next month. The restored heritage 1938 stock, managed by the London Transport Museum (LTM) in Covent Garden, will travel on the Piccadilly line.

The route for the event is between Acton Town station (Gunnersbury Lane, W3 8HN) and Oakwood station (Bramley Roadd, N14 4UT) and runs for around 50 minutes. The journey from Acton does not leave from the LTM's depot in the area, which will be closed.

Tickets to ride on the train are unfortunately sold out, but Londoners will be able to watch the retro stock pass through stops.

History of the stock

The 1938 trains were the first kind of Tube trains to have all of their electrical equipment underneath the floor. Above this was an interior of late 1930s style - a period dominated by Art Deco and Streamline Moderne art styles.

The stock served London, on several deep-level Tube lines, for half a century. The LTM's electrified train is made up of four cars with green and red moquette seating, grab handles and period light fittings.
