A Vinted shopper has given their 'full respect' to a seller, after receiving their purchase in an 'unconventional package'.

Journalist Mollie Goodfellow explained that she'd ordered a dress from the online marketplace, and following its delivery discovered in had been sent in a plastic bag from Card Factory.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Mollie wrote: “Full respect to the seller from Vinted who just put the dress I bought in a plastic bag from Card Factory, tied it up and sent it out.” Her post has since gone viral with almost one million views.

Other Vinted shoppers took the opportunity to share their own experiences with the packaging they've received. Morgane, who uploaded a picture of a poster they bought being stuffed into a large plastic bottle, wrote: “One of the most insane Vinted packages I’ve ever received."

Robbi added: “I got a LIDL bag package before but it was a bag for life so there was that." Bored ‘n’ Welsh said: “I find with Vinted you either get it in a nappy bag or a beautifully wrapped parcel with a handwritten note and a few sweeties inside. There's no in-between.”

Cara said: “I had one once wrapped entirely in duct tape. No layer underneath so it was literally stuck to the dress. Unhinged decision making.”

Twm said: “More impressed the bag survived a trip with Yodel tbf.” Justsal added: “I work an Evri drop-off point and the packing of Vinted parcels never ceases to amaze me.”

J’aimecourir said: “If you buy nice envelopes, bubble wrap etc, they often cost more than what you've made! If I'm selling clothes, I quite often recycle padded envelopes or turn supermarkets carrier bags inside out and tape them up! The idea is to make a bit of money, you generally don't make much!”

According to Yodel, Vinted parcels must adhere to a number of guidelines to make sure items get shipped safely. Parcels sent with the courier must have each item within a parcel wrapped individually.

It also recommends adding a thick layer of packaging material (polystyrene or foam) on each side of the box. The item or items must be securely protected so they do not move around or touch any side of the box to best protect the contents.

If you are reusing heavy plastic bags from an online retailer, it's best to turn them inside out. Yodel advises against using black bin-liners and thin polythene, as well as standard shopping bags, even as a covering for a box as they can rip easily and the label may get torn off as a result.

The courier also said to not use Sellotape as it has limited strength and is not waterproof. Heavy duty tape is reinforced and waterproof. Evri also has extensive guidelines for sending packages with the courier.

Evri details what to use for sending parcels, including whether you need a bag or box; how sturdy the packaging is; size; and labels. You can read Evri’s guidelines here.
