Violent Scenes at UCLA as Pro-Palestinian Encampment Attacked

A crowd of pro-Israel counter-protesters attacked a pro-Palestinian encampment on the UCLA campus in the early hours of Wednesday, May 1, with footage showing them hurling objects and trying to tear down barricades.

Footage by Sean Beckner-Carmitchel shows pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian groups clashing. In the video, a pro-Israel protester is heard saying that the encampment is “like Jim Crow-era segregation.” Another steps forward and says, “You’re gonna block Jewish people?”

The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, confirmed police had been deployed to the college, calling the violence “absolutely abhorrent and inexcusable.”
