A customer-favourite Devon hotel has been ranked among the country's most popular for the ninth year running. The Devonshire Hotel in Torquay has been awarded another TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2024.

The awards are based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings over the past 12 months from visitors who post on the travel reviews website. The Devonshire Hotel currently has a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5 star rating on the website.

The hotel's hilltop location overlooks Tor Bay and is a ten-minute walk from Meadfoot Beach - with a bus service that stops at the hotel and goes into the centre of Torquay for those who don't fancy the walk up and down the hill. A heated outdoor pool is open in the summer months.

Recent reviewer Lilian D said she enjoyed a "lovely holiday with friends" at the hotel, adding: "We've been to the Devonshire hotel several times it's our favourite one. Staff are very nice and pleasant always have a laugh with them. Food is always good entertainment good as well."

Frankie B said: "Pleasant four-night stay at this hotel. Room was nice and big with comfortable beds. The food was very nice with plenty of choices. Entertainment every night was very good and staying on the same table that you have for your meal is a good idea."

No complaints at all, our room was beautiful with a lovely view. It was clean and spacious and well looked after by housekeeping staff. Food and entertainment very good and staff were helpful and efficient."

However S4ndyF was less impressed, saying the hill could be a problem for some and describing the bus services as "infrequent" and furniture as "very dated": "It's a case of you get what you pay for. The hotel is fine, although a little way out of town on quite a steep hill if you have problems walking. There is a bus runs very infrequently into town, but if you want to catch it back (up the hill) it takes ages as it goes to all sorts of places on the way."

The hotel is part of coach holiday provider Daish’s Holidays. Four of its other hotels - Daish’s Hotel on the Isle of Wight, Imperial Hotel in Eastbourne, and Somerset Hotel in Llandudno - also picked up a Travellers’ Choice Award for 2024.

Paul Harper, commercial director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “This award is testament to the commitment and dedication of our team who strive to ensure each guest receives the best possible service and experience to ensure a memorable stay with us. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their experiences and feedback."
