‘Voice’ Winner Alisan Porter Talks ‘Supportive and Wonderful’ Adam Lambert Friendship

Newly crowned Voice champion Alisan Porter and American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert were dear friends long before their respective reality-show stints. They co-starred in Val Kilmer’s The Ten Commandments musical at the Kodak Theater in 2004 and performed together in the L.A. glam-rock revue The Zodiac Show a few years after that; Porter even co-wrote “Aftermath,” a track on Lambert’s debut album, For Your Entertainment. So naturally, when Porter and her Voice coach Christina Aguilera conducted a press conference Tuesday night after her win, Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks asked her about the advice and support that Lambert – obviously a talent competition veteran himself – offered her this Voice season.

“I think we talked every single day throughout this process,” Porter gushed. “And from beginning to end, with song choices, with outfits – he’s so particular! He’s like, ‘Your makeup tonight was perfect – except for this!'” Porter said they good-naturedly “bickered” over her some of her artistic choices (Lambert thought she needed to sing more modern songs), but stressed, “He’s just so supportive and wonderful. He has always, always supported me, always wanted me to continue trying to do this work, so I think just having him as a role model, seeing what he’s been able to do and knowing that he wanted the same for me… for him to be taking time to call me and see how I’m doing –'How’s your spirit? How’s your body? How’s your soul?’ – those are the things that true friends really care about through all of this. Because you really can get trampled if you’re not prepared for [this competition]."

Porter revealed that she played a similar advisor role during Lambert’s Idol Season 8 run back in 2009: "I was there when he was doing Idol, picking songs, sitting at the cafés, [suggesting] what [he] should sing. It was so crazy to have him be able to do the same thing for me.”
