A footballer's wife has defended her bargain-hunting ways after facing online criticism for shopping at Asda and Home Bargains.

Abbie Guy, married to Carlisle United midfielder Callum Guy, is often seen pushing her trolley down the aisles of popular budget retailers, searching for great deals. The couple has two children, Ava and George, and Abbie is a full-time stay-at-home mum looking after them.

Despite her husband’s reported yearly salary of £176,800, many trolls have viciously attacked Abbie's lifestyle, claiming it goes against the typical flashy WAG way of living, and have told her to get a 'proper job.'

Somewhat confusingly, after posting a video of her day out shopping, one troll wrote on TikTok: "You drive a Peugeot and shop in Home Bargains... Maybe you need a job if you want the life you think you live!"

The 26-year-old clapped back, replying to the comment in a separate video. She said: "The stereotypes of being married to a footballer are absolutely wild. If I show off my flashy things I'm pretentious and not relatable - but if I was to just go about my normal day-to-day life of shopping in Asda and Home Bargains that must mean my footballer husband is broke.

"I'm extremely lucky that I get to be a stay-at-home mum while my husband's wages provide for us all - I don't get why people care where I do my food shop or where I get my clothes from. It's really not that deep. I don't have to justify myself to absolutely anybody."

27-year-old Guy has been at the EFL League Two club since 2019 and now captains the side., having previously played for Bradford, Derby, Blackpool, and Port Vale football clubs. The pair married last summer and Abbie has previously come under fire for taking her kids out of school around her husband's work during term time so they can have time as a family.
