Teacher Elspeth Todd was left giggling after her students likened her outfit to that of a nun.

Despite feeling confident she had achieved a professional, sleek look for work, the teacher, who is renowned for sharing insights into her life in education on @_elspxth, pupils took a different view.

Her social media video, which has since gained visibility with more than 156,000 likes, showcased her wearing a long black coat, boots, a white turtleneck jumper, and matching hairband - an ensemble apparently reminiscent of a nun's habit.

Elspeth who is an alumna of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts shared what her students told her when she arrived at school: "I walked into school today and the first thing the kids said to me was didn't realise you were performing in Sister Act today miss..."

In her caption, she humorously expressed her disappointment: "So much for being top tier with my outfits as a teacher."

The humorous comparison invoked images of the 1992 film Sister Act, which stars Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier/Sister Mary Clarence, a singer who revitalises a convent choir while in disguise as a nun. This witty critique suggested Elspeth's fashion choice that day brought to mind the attire typical of a nun.

Once the resemblance was pointed out, TikTok users couldn't help but see the funny side, piling into the comments section with their banter. One user playfully commented: "Get it Sister Mary Clarence."

Another contributor expressed: "Kids are brilliant," with another adding: "Oh my, this has made me cry laughing."

On a similar vein, a fourth person responded: "Not gonna lie you fully walked in to that."

The acting journey of Elspeth includes collaborations with Everyman Theatre, Shakespeare North, and she is also a recipient of accolades as a playwright. With her original play set for production in January 2025, she is looking forward to the future.
