Time for fans of The Walking Dead to rejoice, after news of a huge update on the Rick and Michonne spinoff.

The Richonne series was announced in July 2022, with stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira appearing at San Diego Comic-Con International to deliver the news.

The six-episode miniseries will reunite Lincoln and Gurira's characters Rick and Michonne, to wrap up their storylines.

In January, Gurira posted three photos with Lincoln and The Walking Dead's chief content officer Scott M Gimple on Instagram, confirming the show was in pre-production.

But now things have ramped up as The Walking Dead's official Twitter account shared photos from the show's set on Tuesday (February 21).

Alongside a photo of Lincoln and Gurira's hands clasped together and their chairs on set, the account wrote: "Andrew Lincoln and @DanaiGurira are back on set! The next chapter of Rick and Michonne's story begins..."

Speaking last year, Scott M Gimple, returning on showrunning duties for the spinoff, promised fans they were going to get a "mind-blowing" new outing in the Walking Dead universe.

"These are two people that have been separated for a very long time. They've lived whole other existences and they have to find themselves again, let alone each other. It's hopefully going to be mind-blowing," he said at the AMC Networks Summit in New York in September last year.

Aside from the Richonne spinoff, the Walking Dead universe is set to expand even more. AMC also has a Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) spinoff titled Dead City in the works, as well as a series following Daryl Dixon's (Norman Reedus) solo adventure in Europe.

The Walking Dead aired on AMC in the US and STAR on Disney+ in the UK.
