The Walking Dead star says hit show aided spin-offAMC

The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln said hit Netflix show Bridgerton helped prepare him for the upcoming spin-off of the zombie show.

The Rick Grimes actor will be the focus of TWD spin-off series The Ones Who Live, which will see his partner Michonne (Danai Gurira) hunt for Rick after he leaves at the end of season nine.

In preparation for the "romantic" show, Lincoln told People that he and Gurira took inspiration from period drama Bridgerton, which sees eight siblings in the tight-knit, regal Bridgerton family attempt to find love.

He added: "This has been a long time coming, this story, and I love this character and this is a love story. This is essentially the DNA of the original episode, which was a man in search of his family.

"And Danai, I have to give credit for beating the drum for the love story. Everything we could squeeze out of every scene, she said, 'It's time, this is it.'"

Before the show had even premiered, creator Scott Gimple said the story could continue into a second season. "Anything is possible — even if Rick dies in the last episode, anything is possible," he told Deadline.

"We're focused on this one right now. But this one came together in a really amazing way, where there were all sorts of plans. And then the world changed and we altered those plans."

An official synopsis for the show reads: "The love story between Rick and Michonne. Changed by a world that is constantly changing, will they find themselves in a war against the living or will they discover that they too are The Walking Dead?"

It will see Lost's Terry O'Quinn join the cast as newcomer General Beale, the leader of the Civil Republic Military.

Lucifer's Lesley-Ann Brandt, The Babysitter star Andrew Bachelor, 12 Years a Slave actor Craig Tate, and Birth/Rebirth's Breeda Wool are also among the cast.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres Sunday, February 25 on AMC and AMC+ in the US. The Walking Dead aired on AMC in the US and STAR on Disney+ in the UK.
