A contestant on this evening's (April 28) instalment of Who Wants to be a Millionaire shared a heart-breaking story as she took on the ITV quizzer. Host Jeremy Clarkson welcomed a whole host of new contestants during the show, each of whom hoping to take away a jackpot of £1,000,000 through answering 15 consecutive questions correctly.

After becoming the 'fastest finger' through her musical abilities, Jenny Kerr, a Children's and Family Worker from Buckinghamshire was given a warm welcome to the show. And after blazing to the £1,000 mark, showcasing knowledge on golf, Scottish lochs and samosas, Jeremy took time to get to know the contestant a little further.

And it was at this point that Jenny shared a heart-breaking story about her late grandmother. Jeremy said: "I was reading in your notes that your grandmother was going to be your phone a friend?" to which, Jenny responded: "She was.

"The final conversation with my grandmother was to tell her I had a phone call from the team to say that I was going through to the next round. But sadly she passed away quite suddenly of Covid and so it's heart-breaking.

"But, I made it into this chair. It's an honour to do this in memory of her."

Jeremy added: "Well let's hope you go a very long way in honour of her," before asking: "What was her name?" Jenny said: "She was known as Judy," before Jeremy responded: "Right, this is for you Judy, here we go."

While Jenny would fail to become a millionaire during her stint on the show, she would walk away with a cool £32,000. After setting her safety net there through correctly answering a question on European countries, she was gifted a free shot at £64,000 with a phone a friend lifeline still in play.

The question read: "Reproduction by certain plants and animals without fertilisation by a male is known by what term?" The options were homeostasis, aestivation, parthenogenesis and symbiosis, leaving the contestant hopeful. She admitted: "I really think I know this...but I also don't want to not use my lifelines - but I don't think they'll know it."

Reflecting on how an old friend used to talk about homeostasis often, Jenny was convinced that it was the right answer, rushing: "I'm going to play A) homeostasis - final answer. Done. Done."

Visibly frustrated by Jenny's answer, Jeremy frowned before being asked: "Is it the wrong answer?". The host confirmed that Jenny was wrong, before adding: "It's the wrong answer. You just launched in there!"

Looking on the bright side and still £32,000 better off, Jenny admitted: "Ah well - I'm a winner! I've met Jeremy Clarkson, I've come on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I've got money going home. I'm a winner!" before the in-studio audience erupted into applause.

Jeremy capped off: "And the thing is, I'm not going to forget you in a hurry - if indeed ever," before the contestant walked off with a smile from ear to ear.
