When Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? first debuted on primetime television in August 1999, fans loved watching contestants vie for a million dollar prize by answering obscure trivia questions. The show quickly proved to be a success, and now the game show is celebrating a major milestone in a way folks will be thrilled about.
To mark Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'s 25th anniversary, the show will be back on the air with new episodes starting Wednesday, July 10 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. But that's not all — Jimmy Kimmel is also returning to host the series, with a plethora of celebrities joining him to test their knowledge for a $1 million prize donated to the charity of their choice, TV Insider reported.
Shortly after the news broke, the show confirmed the announcement with a post on Instagram. "It’s raining millions. 💸," read the caption on June 12. "@JimmyKimmel hosts a new season of #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire with your favorite celebrities premiering July 10! Watch on ABC and stream on Hulu."
Naturally, seeing the news of how Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? will celebrate 25 years had fans thrilled by the prospect.
"All right! It’s coming back. I missed this show," one person wrote. "YES OMG HALLELUJAH," another agreed. "Can’t wait for this. 🙌," a different follower added.
While the show is bound to draw in longtime viewers, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? can't mark this big of a TV milestone without a major twist.
