Warning issued after scammers put fake QR codes in Lancs car parks

A warning has been issued after callous scammers placed fake QR codes around car parks in Lancashire.

Fylde Council said scam stickers with a large QR code, have been placed on pay and display machines and tariff boards in the areas.

They imitate the QR codes that motorists can scan to pay for their parking.

The council uploaded a picture of the QR codes and urged anyone who sees them not to use them.

According to the council, many of the stickers have been removed – although more appeared later in Dicconson Terrace, St Paul’s Avenue and Stanner Bank car parks.

If you have already used them contact the police and your bank.

A spokesperson for Fylde Council said: “We've investigated and found stickers with a large QR code have been placed on some of our car park pay and display machines and tariff boards.

“If you see these QR codes please do not use them, they have been placed by scammers!

“If you have used them, please contact the police and your bank.

“Since removing these fake QR codes, more have been placed including Dicconson Terrace car park, St Paul’s Avenue and Stanner Bank.

“Please do not scan these, we are currently working to solve this issue.”
