Warrington is gearing up for an 'amazing day' as it prepares to host stage three of the inaugural Women's Tour of Britain. The race, which will take place from Thursday June 6 to Sunday June 9, will see the world's top female riders and teams compete across four challenging stages.

Warrington will be the start and finish point for stage three on Saturday 8 June, with a flatter route that is expected to favour the sprinters.

Cllr Paul Warburton, Warrington Borough Council's cabinet member for statutory health and adult social care and chair of Warrington's health and wellbeing board, expressed his gratitude towards council officers and British Cycling for their collaboration in bringing this prestigious international cycling event to Warrington. He said: "I am delighted that Warrington residents will be able to welcome back elite cyclists and enjoy what promises to be another fantastic and memorable cycling event for our town. Warrington enjoyed and successfully hosted the Tour of Britain cycle race in September 2021 and it has since been the ambition of the council to bring the Women's race to our town."

"I am pleased that Warrington Council has been able to work with British Cycling to help deliver the 2024 Tour of Britain Women and look forward to an amazing day for the whole of Warrington."

I am very grateful to the council officers and British Cycling for the huge amount of work and collaboration that has enabled Warrington to once again host a prestigious international cycling event.

"Cycling is a great way to get around. It promotes health and wellbeing and I'm sure that seeing professional cyclists in our town will encourage and inspire families and residents of all ages to cycle more."
