U.S. Figure Skating Championships 2024 Competitors, Predictions
Four senior national titles are up for grabs this week as the country’s top figure skaters compete across the men’s, women’s, pairs and ice dance fields.
“Quad God” Ilia Malinin is the defending men’s champion and once again predicted to repeat as National Champion. He’ll be challenged by former World Top 5 finisher Camden Pulkinen and sentimental fave Jason Brown, among other men in the mix.
On the women’s side, 16-year-old Isabeau Levito will be looking to defend her title. She’ll face off against a host of other youngsters vying for the crown, including 18-year-old Lindsay Thorngren, who finished second at the NHK Trophy in Japan. The veteran, Amber Glenn, could also make it onto the podium courtesy of her signature triple axel. Glenn is only the sixth American woman to ever land a clean triple Axel in international competition. 17-year-old Ava Marie Ziegler actually won the NHK Trophy but the teenager withdrew from Nationals to focus on the upcoming Four Continents Championships.
The pairs event is wide open with last year’s champs Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier sitting out this season. Top contenders include last year’s silver medalists Emily Chan and Spencer Howe, along with 2023 bronze medalists Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea.
Perhaps the easiest bet to place this week is on the ice dance field, where World Champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates are expected to easily retain their U.S. title. The rest of the podium should feature Caroline Green and Michael Parsons, along with Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko.
